Author Stu Duval Visits St Pauls

This morning we had a visit from Stu Duval. Stu is a New Zealand children's author and illustrator. We loved listening to him and hearing his wonderful stories. He had us enthralled! We went back to the classroom and practised his 'S, two dots, a prickle and a line' - ask us to show you!! Then we drew his character, Miss Overdue. An amazing start to our week and even better tomorrow morning we get to do a cartoon workshop with him too! Watch this space!

Health & Safety Reminders

We have been talking to the children about being safe at school. This has been discussed in assemblies and in class and has involved discussions around many aspects of school life. One of the important points to note is that the children are not to climb trees and fences in the playground, this is because the majority of our trees and fences have concrete underneath them and are therefore not safe. We have also discussed throwing objects in the playground and if we see something that we think is unsafe, we are to leave it where it is and tell a duty teacher straight away. There is always a teacher on duty as well as Peer Mediators who can also help us out when we need them.
Another aspect of safety will be in the form of a visit from Ronald McDonald this week, he is coming to stress the message of Road Safety. We look forward to telling you all about his visit.

Cross Country 2016

Well done to everyone in Pukeko Class, you all did your very best at the Cross Country on Friday. The teachers and Mums and Dads all felt very proud of you. Sorry I didn't get photos of you all, but if Mums and Dads have some I am very happy to add them to our blog, so tell them to email them to me. Mrs M

Making Gingerbread Men

Today in class we decorated our

Gingerbread Men.

We were extremely lucky to have Thomas's Grandmother come and help us make them as well as prepare everything for the icing. She was SUPER organised which made it so easy for us - a very very BIG THANKYOU to Elizabeth from the whole of Pukeko Class (and from Mrs McTague and Ms Lamont who were both very excited to have such an amazing helper!)

This week is NZ Sign Language week so Jakob and Mrs Larkin have been teaching us how to sign 'Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!'

Pukeko Class were Forensic Scientists!

Testing different powders found at the scene of the crime!

We also had to have a go at setting the volcano to erupt!
We were extremely lucky to have a visit from Nicola Gibellini last week to teach us some science. We learnt all about being a forensic scientist and how they take different samples to catch real life criminals! We took our fingerprints and worked out what patterns we had on our fingers, we tested our felt pens on litmus paper to work out which pen was used in the ransom note and we even looked at our hair under the microscope. This was such an exciting afternoon and we all felt very privileged that Nicola wanted to come and teach us. Thank you very very much Nicola - you are welcome back any time at all!

A fantastic week of Swimming Lessons

Tall pencil shapes!

Jakob swimming with long legs and long arms

Harmony swimming without a board.
We had a great week of lessons last week. The children all concentrated and worked hard to improve their swimming and made great progress as a result.

VERY, VERY big thankyou to our fabulous parents and grandparents who helped walking to and from the pool, especially to the very dedicated ones who survived the torrential rain with us.
